THE PATIENT’S MANIFESTO

I want to be cared for in A Loving Organization.

From Fear and Control to Love and Support

Healthcare was built to prevent harm, but over time, our fear has become encrusted in our systems leading to control, disengagement, burnout, loneliness, overwhelmingness, and frustration. Rules multiplied. Metrics replaced meaning. Hierarchies grew to manage risk, not relationships. The result? A culture where patients feel powerless, clinicians feel surveilled, and compassion feels missing.
A Loving Organization breaks that cycle. It replaces control with trust, hierarchy with collaboration, and competition with shared purpose. It designs systems through which love (presence, safety, and human connection) becomes a reliable outcome. The choice isn’t between love and performance. It’s between fear-based control and love-based excellence. With this campaign, we choose differently together.

Why This Campaign Matters

This campaign invites patients, families, and communities to publicly declare what they truly want from healthcare: to be cared for in A Loving Organization; for clinicians and healthcare workers to declare that they want to work in one; and for managers to declare that they want to be loving leaders. When thousands of patients and staff pledge their support, we create a powerful signal throughout the healthcare system that love is not just moral, it is market demand. Patientswill choose loving organizations. Clinicians will stay and thrive in them. Insurers and regulators will reward them. This is how change begins, from the outside in and the inside out, through the collective voice of those who receive and deliver.

What We’re Doing

●     Mobilizing Voices – Gathering your pledges to prove compassion is what people value most.

●     Raising Awareness – Sharing stories and data to show how love improves safety and quality.

●     Spotlighting Exemplars – Recognizing hospitals and clinics already practicing love.

●     Influencing Policy – Partnering with payers & regulators to make love measurable and rewardable.

●     Educating Leaders – Embedding love into 90-Day Labs and Loving Leadership curriculum.

●      Growing the Movement – Building a data repository and national learning network to track progress.

About A Loving Organization (ALO)

A Loving Organization is a international movement and consortium of healthcare leaders, clinicians, and patients dedicated to transforming healthcare systems by embedding love (expressed through learning, connection, and accountability)into how organizations are led, managed, and measured. At the core of ALO is the INTEGRATE Operating System, an evidence-based framework that aligns nine interdependent sub-systems of an organization – leadership, teamwork, community, staff, management, policies, workflows, culture, and technology. This approach is not theoretical. It’s being demonstrated across the US by leading health systems such as Trinity Health (US), Baylor Scott & White (TX), Medical University of South Carolina (SC), Hackensack Meridian Health (NJ), University of Louisville Physicians Group (KY), Allegheny Health Network (PA), University Hospitals (OH), and Saint Luke’s University Health Network (PA) with remarkable outcomes across the board – all without putting more pressure on their people.

●     20–40%reductions in turnover among nurses and physicians

●     Improved safety and engagement scores (Gallup, IHI, ANA benchmarks)

●     Stronger patient experience results and lower burnout among staff

●     Financial resilience, as love-based cultures correlate with higher retention and lower waste

I want to be cared for by A Loving Organization.

When we seek care, we want to feel safe, seen, and human, not like a number or a bill. Healthcare can be rushed and impersonal, but it doesn’t have to be. There are places where compassion is operational, not optional; where people, purpose, and performance thrive together. These are Loving Organizations.

We Believe

Healing needs love.

  1. Healing needs love. The best care honors body, mind, and heart.
  2. People and performance rise together. Love builds trust, and trust drives results.
  3. Love can be designed. Systems make kindness the norm — in leadership, teamwork, and care.
  4. Fear has no place in healing. When caregivers feel safe and valued, patients flourish.
  5. We want care that feels human. Love is not a slogan; it’s a system.

What Love Feels Like to Us:

  • Inspire – You can feel calm, confident leadership the moment you walk in — everyone’s purpose feels aligned to your care.
  • Nurture – The teams caring for you collaborate smoothly, supporting one another so you feel supported too.
  • Trust – The technology supporting your care works seamlessly — your information is accurate, connected, and used to help, not hassle, you.
  • Embody – The culture feels warm and human; kindness isn’t an act, it’s the atmosphere.
  • Guide – Decisions about your care are clear, transparent, and communicated with respect.
  • Regulate – Policies protect your safety and dignity, not just the organization’s liability.
  • Align – Appointments, billing, and workflows fit your life — the system feels designed for you, not against you.
  • Transcend – Your care process and partners aren’t limited to one care setting and seamlessly connect across the community.
  • Engage – Your voice is heard and acted on — you’re part of the team, not just a case number.

In A Loving Organization, you don’t just get care — you feel cared for by the whole system. We, the patients, families, and communities, prefer A Loving Organization for our care. We, the patients and families, believe that love belongs at every bedside and boardroom table. We thrive when care feels human, when our stories are heard, and when our caregivers are supported to lead with compassion.

Our Promise:

We pledge our voices, choices, & dollars to support Loving Organizations that heal with heart.

We invite:

  • Healthcare leaders to prioritize love as a strategy.
  • Insurers and policymakers to reward compassion and connection.
  • Clinicians and caregivers to lead with love every day.

Let’s make every hospital and clinic A Loving Organization. Because love sustains us.

Join Us: “I choose care that is safe, kind, and loving.  I believe love and excellence belong together.” Let us rebalance what healthcare values: bridging efficiency with empathy, performance with purpose, and pressure with presence.
